id="more-2734">

In order to apply for Cash Back a Green Deal Assessment has to be carried out on the property and if insulation has not already been done then this will be a requirement in order to apply for Cash Back for other measures.

This is in fact great news for homeowners interested in installing Green Deal measures as there is a Cash Back incentive in place for installing insulation! For example, if the Green Deal Assessor recommends you install loft insulation and replace a ‘G’ rated boiler with an ‘A’ rated boiler you could claim £100 Cash Back for installing loft insulation and £270 for replacing your boiler if the work is carried out by a Green Deal Installer.

The post <a

This is a poor figure compared with the 90% or more that is achieved by a modern A rated boiler.

New boiler installation in these properties would result in a 30% reduction in gas consumed creating two huge benefits. Firstly, the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere would be greatly reduced and secondly domestic consumers would be reducing their gas bills by a third.

Further savings can be achieved by improving other items in the system such as pumps and controls at the same time.

Given that gas bills have increased on average by 9% every year since 2004 this is a saving that is well worth making. And, because the saving is such a high percentage, a new installation can pay for itself in just a few years.

Any house that has a modern boiler will also be greatly improving its overall energy rating so making it a much more attractive property if it comes to a sale. A new boiler installation will also give a homeowner much greater peace of mind by greatly reducing the liklihood of breakdown.

The post <a

One of the common domestic issues in October is turning on the heating for the first time that autumn only to discover that the boiler is not working!

This is why Fitterhome is offering a special deal for a full boiler service this summer at just £65. Fitterhome Gas Safe engineers will take great care to ensure that your system is working effectively before it will be needed this winter.

It also makes sense to have a regular boiler service so that the machine is running as efficiently as possible. You’ll burn less fuel that way and minimise your energy bill.

You can learn exactly what is being covered in a Fitterhome service by visiting the boiler service and repair page where you can also easily make contact to arrange an appointment. The offer ends on 30th September 2012.

The post <a

A one stop centre for home energy saving.

As household energy costs continue to rise one of the things most sought after by homeowners is good sound energy saving advice. There do seem to be a large number of things to think about: the age and fabric of the building, the efficiency of boiler systems, the pattern of usage, the use of gadgets, renewable energy and so on!

Then there’s the whole issue of funding. Are there government grants that can support improvement? How do I apply? If I invest in this myself what really is the pay back period? What are my savings likely to be?

Well now, for the lucky people of St Albans, there is one place that anyone can drop into and obtain excellent advice about all of these matters from knowledgable, experienced staff. The Fitterhome showroom at the Albert Bygrave Centre on the North Orbital Road exhibits everything from complete systems to energy saving devices. You can discuss options and see the technology working in a relaxed atmosphere without any obligations.

So for anyone who seriously wants to reduce their energy costs and contribute to a better environment for us all they are more than welcome to call in for some excellent home energy saving advice!

The post Double Glazing Blog (DGB) making comment about Which Magazine’s demands regarding The Green Deal. The three issues picked up on were:

Savings must be linked to a detailed energy assessment

No shocking early repayment fees

The risk of Mis-selling

Energy Assessment

Which’s first point here is that home energy assessments will be based on “average” energy usage in “average” home types (Detached, semi etc.) and that therefore in some households where the energy usage is above average there may be little or no savings. DGB reflects that we all have different habits and attitudes in our approach to energy management.

One of the key reasons for government initiatives of this type is that we use too much energy, depleting natural resources and producing high levels of carbon pollution. This scheme will help homeowners with the capital costs of improvement to their home and hopefully people will be taking advantage of this both to benefit themselves and the wider community.

Is it not, therefore, reasonable to suppose that participation will cause them to consider the global benefits as well as the opportunity to reduce costs and make their homes more comfortable? Once a home has an A rated boiler, insulated walls and roof and high performance windows and doors surly the inhabitants will then turn the stat down, only heat the parts of the house they are using and switch off electrical items instead of using standby.

That way it’s a partnership between government and householder to ensure that energy usage is reduced by this scheme.

No Shocking Repayment Fees

This is something that the government should re-think. Early repayment of the loan should not result in punitive fees and could well be a block to the scheme being successful.

The Risk of Mis-Selling

The government have gone to great lengths to build in as many safeguards as possible to this scheme with accreditation for assessors, providers and installers – monitoring mechanisms and supported sources of independent advice. This is clearly laid out on Department for Energy & Climate Change website for all to see.

The Green Deal will be supported by responsible and well controlled businesses.

The post <a
